Monday Morning Grind 5-24 now 8-16

Some of you have asked I return to doing these. Since you spoke up, here you go. This one I wrote back in May and never actually approved for public view. A little catch up before we move forward. To get myself back on the horse, I chose a few new ones and bumped a large pile of all the old ones. For you new readers, I read, usually what I have to, but if you ask, I try to fit in things you want to talk about. Some time ago, I actually would participate in the Saturday Morning Discussion Group (SMDG) but store activity usually prevents it. This blog is the substitute of my participation.

Two items will be colored in blue and have a brief comment here on the post. They are not necessarily the best of the week, some titles might take that spot all the time and that just is just disinteresting. So, the real scoop, two victims. Additional information will be added from comments, so if there is one you want to talk about, just yell.

The Fall Volume 1

This was not on the Modern Age site. I pulled this one due to the art style and its European influence. I do this every so often to get an idea of how the rest of the world uses the medium. The story is about a man who loses his wife. This happens during  the collapse of global social and economic structure. Odd to read during a global pandemic that shuts down most economies while famines and floods are happening. yeah, little too real. Jared Muralt is the creator and I have to say, it belongs at Image, right next to the Walking Dead. No zombies, but heavy social breakdown viewpoints. A note. If you read comics for escapism, stay away, this one does not rub off easy.

Mighty Valkyries #1

This one is not here as a favorite. It is here as an example of post event wrap up that actually makes the preceding event mean something. To read this, you pretty much have to read Marvel’s “War of the Realms”. You should anyway if you like Asgard in any way. When Jane Foster returns from the war she believes she is the only Valkyrie left, turns out not so much. Enter Run’a. I like the book because both characters have very Asgardian things to do. Loki mixed in makes things a little chaotic (go figure) but all in all the mini is likely to fill in some long term character growth.
