Monday Morning Grind 2-21-2022

Not as many this week as I would like but between accounting and the catalog closing, I’m a little pressed for time.

I continued last week’s DC focus by reading Low, Low, Woods #1. The book wasn’t bad, just not as good as I felt the plot could have been. The dialog seems a little broken, like the writer was distracted or something. Maybe the editorial step in the publication process was missed or a thought changed. I was intrigued by the mystery at the theatre and the weird animals on the trip home. The coal mine story in the middle was okay, but the last page fit none of the previous pieces. Monday Morning Grind 2-7-22

February catalog being active, I moved into reading a few issues a day again. Unfortunately accounting, website issues and some new recipes got in the way, but here you go. I read a few back to backs this week to help close the gap.

Not All Robots is surprisingly good. Isaac Asimov would have given a few more details but the two sided emotional conflict in the book is actually well done. Transferring the weight and drudgery of a daily grind to a robot is a smart idea. The supporting characters, both robots and humans, are well balanced yet still are slight enough where real life characterization grounded me as I read. Robot co-workers make comments like robots not people; while the people still complain like people. Scott Maki, if you are not reading this, please do.
